How To Live A Fulfilling Life
Deep down at the core of every human being we all have the desire to live a fulfilling life. I don’t claim to have ALL the answers but I have found the fulfillment that I have always wanted and want to share this with you. Here’s how to live a fulfilling life. 🙂
Most of us tend to associate living a fulfilling life with happiness. If you think that you should only feel happy in order to live a fulfilling life, you will be in for a BIG, HUGE disappointment.
It’s better if you get in touch with reality rather than living in a fantasy world..like I did back then.
Because when you think this way, you will NEVER be satisfied. Constant seeking for MORE worldly knowledge and wisdom will leave you feeling empty and DRAINED.
“Where’s the next secret golden key of how to live a fulfilling life?! GIVE ME MORE!!!”
I’ve been there, done that.
Once you decide that you want to live a fulfilling life, the first thing you will do is obviously to research on it. You gather so many sources and try to make sense of things.
What I did was read a bunch of books and watch videos on wise people and worldly wisdom. I tried to find that hidden, secret wisdom. Constant seeking and searching… can you relate?
This person says the only way to live a fulfilling life is to have genuine relationships (which is TRUE! but can it last?). Another person says that the only way is by living in the moment (aka mindfulness, taking life one day at a time..living your best life NOW).
And then another source says you should have a goal or an ambition that you strive towards and work at it everyday. BLABLABLABLA… you’ve heard it all.
Don’t get me wrong, all of these things are valid. Having real, genuine relationships with your loved ones, living in the present moment, power of positive thinking by being mindful of your thoughts, work on what you love ETC.
These are all valid and can contribute to living a fulfilling life.
…..and I have tried them all.
One thing that I have realized is that I AM STILL THIRSTY for more. I still felt like I needed to find more fulfillment in my life.
All The Weight On My Shoulders
Your relationships with your loved ones, when genuine and strengthened..is great! Of course you should have that. At the same time, you don’t need me to tell you this.. right?
But my question to you is this….
Will it last long? Till you die?
That goal or ambition that you tirelessly work towards.. will reap great material rewards for you, indeed. You will feel fulfilled…but for how long?
How long until you are out on the hunt FOR MORE?
Living in the present moment, not giving a care about the past or present and making sure that your thoughts are positive that will serve you………
Is it just an illusion? A false reality that you create for yourself? Living in the present moment.. it’s all about RIGHT NOW. NOW NOW NOW. YOU WANT IT NOW.
As the false *coughs* prophet Joel Osteen says, LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE NOW! (what about the afterlife?)
Take a moment and think about it.
I’m not saying that you should not strive for these things.
But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter, does it?
Rich or poor, happy or sad, slave or free.. we will all perish. This flesh will not live forever. But each and every one of us desire a meaning in life that leads to fulfillment.
I was reading the book of Ecclesiastes by King Solomon and…oh boy it is beautiful. At that point of time, I felt really upset and depressed while reading it.
Because at the time when I was reading it, I was also on the journey of seeking on how to live a fulfilling life. Constant seeking and searching for happiness, positivity, worldly knowledge and wisdom, creating my own business for material freedom, etc you name it. Everything.
I highly encourage you to read the book of Ecclesiastes and reflect on the words written by King Solomon, that had everything he needed. He had everything he needed, rich, wealthy man.
#1: Wisdom Is Meaningless
In Ecclesiastes 1:17-18 (NIV) says,
“Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind.
For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief”
This is so true for me. If you can relate, please share your experience with me in the comments!
When I was on the journey of seeking how to live a fulfilling life, I wanted to know the truth. I was asking all the big questions like is there a God? Why am I here?
Why is there a control system in place? Why are people doing work that they hate? Why do we accept paper as money? Why are people so obsessed with themselves? Etc etc.
So many questions, I was THIRSTY for an answer. Full of determination, I was willing to read through every wisdom from wise men throughout history.
Fast forward, just like what Ecclesiastes 1:17 said, a “chasing after the wind”.
It is ultimately meaningless. Why did I keep chasing after something that is worthless?
I did find the truth and reality of this world and it is indeed, very depressing to know how this world works and where it is heading.
So what? Where do we go from here?
Truly, it is a chasing after the wind.
#2: Pleasures Are Meaningless
Ecclesiastes 2:10-11 (NIV)
“I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure.
My heart took delight in all my labor, and this was the reward for all my toil.
Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind;
nothing was gained under the sun.”
Once again, this bible verse is so beautifully well put together. It is self-explanatory.
Have you ever had the experience of living a life of pleasure? Just pure pleasure. Even if its just for a moment.
There was once when I had money because I worked hard and spent it purely on things my flesh love to indulge. I used to love shopping and was able to buy anything my heart desired.
It was just a temporary solution for how empty and hollow I felt on the inside.
I’m sure you’ve heard of many people especially people who are loaded with rewards either due to luck or from their hard work. Yet they still feel something isn’t right with their lives and keep on seeking more pleasure, restoring that temporary feeling of fulfillment.
Do you feel this way?
All that earthly pleasures are pointless. What is the point if you end up feeling like a dead zombie? YOU ARE SPIRITUALLY DEAD!
#3: Riches Are Meaningless
Ecclesiastes 5:10, 15
“Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.
Everyone comes naked from their mother’s womb, and as everyone comes, so they depart. They take nothing from their toil that they can carry in their hands”
What does this mean?
I’m not implying that you should not work hard to be rich but have you ever wondered.. what is the point?
All the work that you do, the riches that you have earned….. you will NOT take a single penny with you to your grave. This is NOT to make you feel bad or to discourage you but rather to make you ask yourself once again.
What is all of this for anyway? At the end of the day, your feeling of fulfillment only lasts for a short while.
Wake up next day, back on the grind to refill that empty feeling you have. Reap your richly rewards and feel satisfied temporarily.
Simply put it, you will NEVER have enough even when you DO have MORE than enough! MORE MORE MORE!
“Why am I still feeling empty? Why why why????”
Do you get it yet?
So, What’s The Conclusion On How to Live a Fulfilling Life?
Everyone, EVERY BODY, faces the same destiny ultimately. We will all perish. We won’t be here forever, no matter how hard you try you will eventually face death.
However, as long as you live, living and breathing right now, you still have HOPE.
Hope for another day to pursue your dreams. Another chance to work hard towards your goals. Another chance to mend that broken relationship with your loved ones.
So long as you are still LIVING, you have this hope to make things better or worst. Your decision.
Because when you are dead, it will be too late. But as I have mentioned previously, everything is indeed meaningless.
“and the dust returns to the ground it came from,
and the spirit returns to God who gave it”
Whatever that we do under the sun, all that work, we won’t be able to take it with us when we die.
Yes, indeed, we will return to dust. You don’t know when your hour will come.
So, where am I going with this? How did I finally find that fulfillment so even on bad days, I feel so fulfilled and accomplished?
King Solomon concluded this so beautifully. Here you go. The conclusion of all this madness
“Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.
For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil”
I used to mock God. As an atheist, I actually hated God. I was just so angry at everything, and wondered why God made the world the way it is today. Boy, was I wrong and so lost…
Only when I opened my heart to God due to His grace and mercy to save me, that I understand everything. Truly, I fear God now but with that fear comes wisdom.
Now I do everything with God in mind. Do good, forgive others, do not live a life of sin and pleasing MAN but rather it is better to please God than mere mortals, like you and I.
So what I did next was that I feared God ABOVE everything else. I started to see a major shift in the way I behave, talk and everything in my life.
This is a fear that will put you in your place. Like a father disciplining his child. Serve God and love your neighbors with all your heart.
I found true joy and delight in keeping God’s commandments because it comes from LOVE. Real love, not the kind of love that will allow you to sin and ‘do whatever you want’.
This is a path to destruction… a sweet lie that will lead you to the end of the cliff unconsciously.
Everything that I do, I am always mindful of God. When I do this, I always think twice and ask God if what I am planning to do is right.
With this comes true fulfillment and peace. No, life won’t get easier or have more rainbows and sunshine. But you definitely don’t have to keep re-filling your spirit because when you obey God and fear Him, you will always be filled to the brim.
Alright, that is all for now. I hope you get the message that I am conveying in this blog post. 🙂
Take care and God bless you
