Give Up These 7 Deadly Sins
Seriously, it’s not worth it. A true successful freedom life is NOT committing these sins. Give up these 7 deadly sins, for real.
But what exactly are these 7 deadly sins that I am talking about? Why am I telling you to give up these 7 deadly sins? If you have not heard of this, don’t worry I will mention it further down below.
Before that, I want to ask you a question.
Have you heard of the phrase, “You only live once” or “YOLO”? (No, not the song)
If you’ve never heard of it, what are your first impressions? How do you interpret that phrase the first time that you heard it?
Okay so if you interpret it as living life to its fullest or risking it all, you are right! That is exactly what it means. Of course, feel free to share with me in the comments if you have a different interpretation.
For most of our lives, especially in the media, you and I have been told to just take the risk and live your life the way you want to.
Now, I don’t want you to take my word for it. I am a sinner, and by no means am I perfect or holy. When you are in doubt, don’t rely on man but rather refer to the Word of God.
By no means am I claiming to be a teacher or you should rely everything on what I say. Everything that I say is from my perspective.
Condemn the SIN, NOT the sinner.
Have I made myself clear? Okay, great.
Now, I’ll reveal to you what the 7 deadly sins are.
Give Up These 7 Deadly Sins #1: Lust
First, let’s talk about LUST. It’s not just males that indulge in lust. Females especially these days engage in lust MORE than ever.
But what exactly is lust? According to BibleInfo.com, lust is basically the STRONG desire or passion for sexual desires. As you can see, the media, for YEARS especially Hollywood celebrities have been promoting lust to the public, FOR YEARS!!
I can’t even count it with my 2 hands and foots!
Now, let’s see where lust is mentioned in the Bible….AHA!
2 Timothy 2:22 says, “Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the LORD out of a pure heart”
I just want to be honest with you on how the current and future generation behaves toward lust. Honestly, I feel like it is being highly encouraged to youths to embrace their sins with the current feminist movements.
Females are taught to embrace their body and do whatever they want with it. If they want to be promiscuous, let them be.
If you disagree, then you will be labeled as a misogynists or call you a hater. They will definitely fight back with anger and get defensive.
I know this because I am 19 years old. Females are told that virginity is a social construct so what does that mean? Where can we go from there with that information?
I don’t know, you tell me.
Hookup culture and having casual sex is running rampant in this day and age. You get called a prude for not engaging in this type of sin. Sad thing is, most people know that this is a sin but we are taught to embrace sin rather than condemn it.
Worst, like I said previously, both males and females are guilty of indulging in lust. I’m not just pointing it out on females. Girls, please listen.
I am saying this from a place of love. Having casual sex and indulging in fornication especially when you are not married, is going to have a detrimental effect on you – physically, mentally, emotionally – and your entire life.
As for males, according to my experience, I can’t say much..BUT! I will admit, I DO NOT feel safe whenever I go out. Yes, I do come from a very safe country but I am also very cautious and vigilant no matter where I am.
Sadly, I have observed that even when I am not wearing revealing clothes, there are some men that will stare at me lustfully. How? By looking me from my face all the way to my feet.
I’m sure most girls can relate to this. It is a serious issue.
Here’s a Bible verse which talks about lust for the males.
Matthew 5:28 “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart”
Practice some self-control. Ask the LORD to help you if you have trouble with it. Stop masturbating and watching porn. Do something else that will distract your mind from thinking about lust.
Give Up These 7 Deadly Sins #2: Gluttony
Initially, I was still quite unsure of what gluttony meant. But LearnReligons.com explained the meaning very simply. According to them, gluttony means trying to consume more of anything than you actually need.
The moment when I read this, first thing that came to my mind is… MUKBANG YOUTUBE CHANNELS. In case you don’t know what ‘Mukbang’ or 먹방 is basically a live broadcast or online live streaming of someone eating a copious amount of food, MORE than what is required in front of a live audience.
Sounds weird, doesn’t it? I don’t exactly know how it became a trend but it has been since 2016 worldwide (originated earlier in South Korea) if I can recall correctly.
I remember when I was scrolling through my Youtube feed and youtube recommended a mukbang video to me and that’s where it got trendy.
Here’s a popular mukbanger from youtube. If you didn’t know, they get paid for it and eating a LARGE AMOUNT of food is how they make a living. (Though I’ll admit that only A FEW mukbangers don’t eat a lot of food and focus on making recipes and interacting with their audience instead. One of my fav is Keemi Kim, fyi.)
You see, I don’t personally have a problem with the people doing this. The problem that I have with this is that Youtube is encouraging this behavior. Yes, I have heard of mukbangers getting demonetized but now they are still raking in views and get promoted by Youtube!
It is the state of the current world we live in right now, at least with our current and future generations. Let’s be real, you don’t NEED to eat that much food.
Young children nowadays have easy access to watch these kind of videos. The foods that they eat are not particularly good for the body especially when consumed on a daily basis. Fast food every day?
The thought of it alone makes me sick to my stomach.
Proverbs 23:20-21 says, “Do not join those who drink too much wine or GORGE themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags”
This verse hit me right at the core because I remember when I was experiencing so much sadness in my life. Watching mukbang videos helped me to take the pain away because it distracts me from focusing on my problems.
Over time, I got influenced and even craved for fast food (when I didn’t actually need to) and ate my food while watching a mukbang video.
I don’t know about you but this is very sad for me. It is a very empty, sad feeling. I also felt drowsy from eating too much food sometimes and over indulged when it isn’t necessary at all.
Be content with what you have. Don’t be greedy and eat more than you can take.
Give Up These 7 Deadly Sins #3: Laziness
I was and still am guilty about this. How many of you are guilty of being lazy? Of course, it’s okay if you have been working hard and deserve a day dedicated to rest. But we are talking particularly about laziness here.
Other terms for this deadly sin is sloth. Sloths, by nature, are very slow. VERRRRRYYYY SLLLOOOOWWW. And lazy!
According to LearnReligions.com, this deadly sin is the most misunderstood, because it’s not laziness that most of us usually identify with.
The first thought that came to my mind was just being a couch potato and not doing anything the whole day. In other sense, not being productive. But it is more than that if we are talking about the 7 deadly sins.
LearnReligions mentions that this sin is geared towards apathy. In simpler terms, apathy means a lack of interest or indifference.
It is considered a deadly sin for a good reason. Why?
Because when you have this attitude of “Oh, I don’t care about anything at all. It doesn’t concern me”, most likely you are not going to spend time doing what is good for you, especially spiritually.
If you don’t even care for anything in the first place, do you think you will care about yourself? No. And I speak from experience because once again, I am a sinner and guilty of this sin in the past.
I used to not care about doing good deeds because I was so selfish and in general, don’t really care much about other people.
Proverbs 6:6 “Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise!”
This Bible verse explains the deadly sin of sloth very well. You should know that ants are very hard working no matter how small they are.
Do you ever see a slug work hard? I am not quite sure myself but slugs are slow just like sloths as well, if you ask me. No one wants to be a sluggard.
So, get up and get to work. Work from the heart and soul.
Give Up These Deadly Sins #4: Greed
Greed is often associated with excessive material gains. Greed is by far the most dangerous sin and most deadliest.
I myself have experienced greed. But I realized that greed usually stems from a feeling of unsatisfaction.
I already have all I need and I have MORE than enough. But the feeling of lack, like I NEED MORE, resulted in me getting greedy over stuff that I don’t actually need.
Gain, gain, gain, gain. Actually, nowadays it is not hard to find someone with a lot of wealth that are very greedy. They don’t need it because they already possess enough materials. Greed will make you focus on purely gaining things.
How many of you have been guilty of this before?
Hebrews 13:5 “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,
‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.'”
WOW. I am just in awe of this Bible verse regarding greed.
When you believe in the LORD, rest assured that all your needs will be met. But please, never ever have any attachments to your worldly material desires.
There is no good that can come from greed.
Give Up These 7 Deadly Sins #5: Wrath
In another words, wrath directly means EXTREMEEEEE anger. Oh man, I used to live my life full of wrath every second, every minute of my life.
I will never calm down. I was angry at EVERYTHING. My temper was too difficult to keep under control. But whenever I express extreme anger, I am actually the one that is suffering the most.
Because when you are angry, not only will you ruin your relationships, but it actually feels like holding a burning coal in your hand and not letting it go.
It is definitely a deadly sin because it wasn’t good for my heart. Instead of love and patience, it was replaced with anger and impatience.
Psalm 37:8 explains the effects of wrath
Psalm 37:8 “Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret – it leads only to evil”
This Bible verse definitely hit the nail on the head because when you live your life with wrath, eventually you will be led to do evil things.
Give Up These 7 Deadly Sins #6: Envy
“Oh man, I envy you” I have been hearing and seeing this phrase a lot lately. I am guilty of using it too, without actually realizing what I have done.
Envy basically means that you desire what somebody else desires. For example, if they have a nice Porsche or a big mansion, you would envy them for having such luxurious item.
Then you envy them, wishing that you could have what they have or be just like them.
From my experience, this may seem harmless on the surface but it will make you unhappy with your life. In fact, if you feel envy all the time, I can guarantee that the word “Happy and satisfied” does not exist in your dictionary!
I was so sad all the time, wishing I had all the money in this world. I would look at rich people and wish I could have what they have. As a result, I was never satisfied with what I have, similar to greed.
Once again, the following Bible verse EXPLAINS envy so beautifully in a truthful way.
Proverbs 14:30 “A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.”
Envying others will make you feel rotten. You will definitely feel so spiritually dead because you envy what others have.
Give Up These 7 Deadly Sins #7: Pride
Last but certainly not the least, we have PRIDE. Hmmmm, pride? A deadly sin? What does pride exactly mean?
According to my google search for the meaning of the word ‘Pride’, it means to be especially proud of one’s own quality/skill/achievements.
Doesn’t sound too bad, doesn’t it? Sometimes when I have worked hard on a certain project, I would take pride in my work.
But pride is considered a deadly sin when it is getting way too excessive. When you take too much pride and don’t give credit where it’s due then it gets DEADLY.
Vanity is a good example of a pride that has gone too far. Radical self-love is also pride. It’s all about you and your traits, while disregarding other people or even God.
When I was in the self-love new age movement, I realized that I got too caught up with loving myself so much that I completely disregard my loved ones.
Nowadays, they tell you to love yourself which IS A GOOD THING, but I feel like it has gone way too far, resulting in narcissism.
Proverbs 6:18 “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall”
I want to make myself clear once again that I do NOT condemn individuals (sinners) because I am one, too. Also, who am I to condemn others?
But sins are SINS, regardless. There is a good reason why it is a sin and we should not indulge in sin. Because ultimately it will destroy you.
Yes, sin will present itself to be harmless but let me tell you this….it is always FREE on the first try of sin. The further you go, the more harm you will do to yourself…and the bigger the price you have to pay.
James 1:14-15 “but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”
